NORTHBORO - Tik Tok! The Party didn't stop till' 9 in the night, as students from Algonquin and Westborough High came together to celebrate the inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Valentine's themed dance in Northboro, MA. The event marked yet another year where Algonquin High School was able to offer an incredibly fun and authentic semi-formal dance. This year was additionally special with the inclusion of Westborough High School, who was invited to be a part of the awesome event.
This marks an important occasion in Best Buddies MA history, as it is a step forward in the way we think about our Chapters and the opportunities for collaboration that exist among us. Westborough High School was extremely honored to be a part of the event, and they look forward to being even more involved next year. This will only increase the quality and attendance of the event. Reaffirming, that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are deserving of the fun kind of events that their peers are offered in the school community.
The glamorous event featured catered food from a local gourmet supermarket, delectable deserts, and a live DJ. Music ranged from popular dance songs to retro classics. The level of excitement filled the room as students got together to enthusiastically share some fun moments with their friends from the Best Buddies program.
As the year progresses, students and staff encourage other schools to host some kind of school dance event. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the spirit of Best Buddies, and most importantly it gives our participants a chance to have an authentic and fun evening as a young adult. If you need additional support with establishing a dance on a shoe string budget at your school than please contact your local Program Manager. |
